Global Advocacy
AIPLA works closely with international organizations and governments to advocate for our members' interests.
AIPLA has served both the national and
international IP communities for well over a century with education,
advocacy, and practice development programs and events. We recognize
the important role attorneys and agents play in the protection of
international intellectual property rights.
In 2002, AIPLA and the World
Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) signed a Memorandum of
Understanding on Cooperation in the Field of Intellectual Property. During the following year, AIPLA, along with Business Europe (BE), Intellectual Property Owners Association (IPO),and Japan Intellectual Property Association (JIPA) becames members of the Industry Trilateral. the industry counterpart to the Trilateral Offices. Thereafter, the Industry Trilateral was joined by Korean Intellectual Property Association (KINPA) and Patent Protection Association of China (PPAC) to form the Industry IP5, the industry counterpart to the five IP Offices (IP5).
In addition to engaging in Industry/Foreign Office Cooperation, AIPLA reached out to National IP Practitioner Associations from around the globe to come together in a summit to discuss common issues and challenges and share the views and visions of colleagues around the world (for more information see The Global Network).
We advocate on behalf of our members and
make our views known to various international bodies and governments.
