2016 Mid-Winter Institute e-Bulletin

From January 27-30, 2016, over 500 AIPLA friends and family took over the beautiful La Quinta Resort in California. The theme for the Mid-Winter Institute programming was Enforcing IP – From Creation to Monetization and Litigation, and attendees learned from experts on how to efficiently create, monetize, and enforce IP so that their company or client can most effectively leverage its IP investment. Finding the Strike Zone for Patentability After Alice

During the Friday Luncheon, Micky Minhas, Associate General Counsel and Chief Patent Counsel for Microsoft, discussed how Microsoft has adapted its practices in response to recent Supreme Court decisions, particularly pertaining to issues of patentability after Alice Corp. Ltd. v. CLS Bank Corp., U.S., No. U.S., No. 13-298, 6/19/2014.

Educational Sessions Focus on IP Enforcement

​In the current era of economic restraint and market uncertainty, companies are searching for value from every dollar spent.  It is with this in mind that the 2016 Mid-Winter Institute explored the issues and perspectives surrounding IP enforcement throughout its entire life cycle, from creation to monetization to litigation.  From patents to trademarks, copyrights and trade secrets, the programming covered all areas of IP.

AIPLA Congratulates the Winners of the Golf Tournament

On Saturday, January 30, 2016, forty-five conference attendees participated in a Golf Tournament at the La Quinta Resort Dunes Course. The Dunes Course is a par-72 Pete Dye-designed course, and it has hosted prestigious golf tournaments including the PGA Club Professional Championship, the PGA Tour Final Qualifying School, the California State Open, and the Ladies NCAA Championship.
